The 4th Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Congress has concluded after passing the amendments to the party regulations.
MDP Congress was held for three days at the social centre in Male’ City, for which 11 amendments to the party regulations were proposed. The members also held discussions and proposed further amendments.
At the MDP Congress, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih proposed to maintain the policies related to the party branches, which was passed with 901 votes in favour and one against. President of MDP Mohamed Nasheed also proposed to form a think-tank for the party, which was passed with 915 votes in favour and three against.
Furthermore, the amendments to elect vice presidents of MDP with the approval of the national council and to allow a member of a women’s development committee (WDC) to join the congress were passed with 857 votes in favour.
Concluding the MDP Congress, Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail said that work has begun to resolve differences and strengthen the party. A total of 1,178 members joined the congress, which was held to vote on amendments to the party regulations and establish party policies.
The first MDP Congress was held in 2005 and celebrated its 17th anniversary on June 26, 2022.
