Maldivian editors and journalists in India for training

A team of local editors and journalists has departed to India for a training programme.

The programme is an initiative of the Maldives Media Council (MMC) to enhance the skills and abilities of local media personnel. The training is conducted under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC) programme. 

The In-Service Training of Editors and Journalists of the Maldives is an eight-day training programme organised by Amity University Noida in India. A total of 20 individuals are participating in the programme. The training covers journalism ethics, key media laws, journalism best practices, reporting in various situations, video journalism, mobile reporting, community broadcasting, investigative journalism, election reporting, digital journalism, fake news and fact-checking techniques, and the role of critical thinking and training in developing the professional skills of journalists.

In addition, the participants will visit various media houses in India, and various senior government institutions to meet editors and journalists to gain information and experience. As such, participants are set to visit the Press Council of India, Prasar Bharati, Doordarshan Kendra and the National Capital Region.

The team is headed by Member of MMC Mohamed Shafiu and the Deputy Head of Delegation is Member of MMC Muizzu Ibrahim.
