The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has officially awarded its presidential ticket to former President Abdulla Yameen.
PPM awarded the ticket to former President Yameen at a special ceremony held at the carnival area in Male’ City. Yameen was handed the ticket by the President of the People's National Congress (PNC) Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
PPM made the decision to award the ticket for the Presidential Election 2023 after its senate chose Yameen to be the presidential candidate representing the opposition coalition consisting of PPM and PNC.
Former President Yameen has been charged by the state with numerous crimes involving laundering money during his presidency. If found guilty, he will be unable to participate in the upcoming Presidential Election.
