Major local tourism project launched in Fiyoari

Fiyoari Island Council has contracted two parties to develop local tourism on the island.

Fiyoari Island Council said three parties submitted tender for the three land plots opened for local tourism. However, the council awarded the project to the two parties which completed the submissions.

President of Fiyoari Island Council Faizar Rasheed said the land plots have been handed over to Spectra Private Limited and Margosa Group. He said the plots will officially be handed over once the water and sewerage projects are completed in the area next year although the contracts have been signed with the developers. He added the land plots were handed over for 35 years.

The initiative from the Fiyoari Island Council is the largest local tourism project to be launched in an inhabited island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The main occupations of the youth of Fiyoari are resort jobs and fishing with vessels of nearby Faresmathoda. The council believes the development of local tourism in the island will create more job opportunities in the island. The council also believes that youth will get more opportunities to earn while staying in the island.
