No valid reason to postpone MDP Congress: Chairperson

Chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Fayyaz Ismail has stated there is no reason to postpone the scheduled party congress. He made the remarks amid a formal request from Parliamentarian Ali Azim seeking to postpone the congress.

Speaking about the request that alleged the party branches were formed against regulations, Fayyaz said some issues have been raised regarding the congress, assuring that necessary actions in accordance with the rules will be taken regarding such matters. However, Fayyaz said no such issue so far warrants the postponement of the congress. He further added that the congress can only be postponed by the MDP National Assembly, highlighting the chairperson does not have the authority to make such a decision.

Speaking about the largest party convention of the party, Fayyaz assured that the congress under his chairpersonship will be the most transparent event ever held in the history of the party. He added all the affairs of congress would be conducted in accordance with the regulations.
