Health Ministry discusses developing accreditation standard with SingHealth

Ministry of Health has held discussions with SingHealth Academic Medical Centre on developing an accreditation standard for hospitals and health centres, including standards for the academic medical centres.

Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem joined the discussions with consultants of SingHealth in the meeting held at the health ministry. The discussions focused on the plan for the formulation of the accreditation standard and addressing the challenges in healthcare service quality improvement. Minister Naseem highlighted the need to focus on adapting standards to the local context in order to increase efficiency and provide better outcomes.

SingHealth is Singapore's largest group of healthcare institutions and its consultants arrived in the Maldives to ascertain the health ministry’s current accreditation process for healthcare institutions and its standard for health workers. SingHealth and the health ministry discussed developing the accreditation standard as part of the government’s efforts to develop the health sector.

The health ministry has stated that it also plans to establish a board to monitor healthcare institutions and allow the ministry to act as a regulatory authority and focus on implementing the accreditation standard.
