Maldives sends greetings on India's Independence Day

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended warm wishes on the occasion of the 75th year of Independence of India.

Extending greetings in a tweet, President Solih said the Maldives and India have always shared deep bonds of friendship and it is a wish that India remains a beacon of freedom, progress, and diversity. He also extended greetings to the President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, and the people of India on behalf of the Maldives.

Commemorating the occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid stated India continues to inspire the world with its exceptional role in the global arena, adding India continues to be an example of advancement and democracy with its remarkable progress achieved. Minister Shahid stated the Maldives and India share centuries-old historical and cultural ties. India has proven to be the closest friend and first responder of the Maldives and a reliable friend at any time of need. Noting this year, as Maldives and India celebrate 57 years of formal diplomatic relations, he assured commitment to uphold the values of the strategic partnership and continue to work in promoting mutual interests for the prosperity of the two nations.

India achieved its independence from colonial British rule on August 15, 1947.
