Gov’t appeals all citizens to participate in Census 2022

Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that Census 2022 is crucial for national development and appealed to all citizens to participate in the programme as part of their national duty.

In a video message, Minister Aslam said that it was important for every citizen to participate in the population census, as the information obtained will be used for national development and important state-level decisions. He also said that plans related to the atolls will be formulated based on the data collected from the population census.

Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) is preparing to begin the population census on September 17 and is conducting training programmes. MBS is seeking 4,400 enumerators for the census, including 2,409 enumerators for the Greater Male’ Region and 1,991 enumerators for the atolls.

The full report of Census 2022 will be published on National Statistics Day, which falls on October 20. The population census is a count of all individuals and household units across the country. During the census, data will be collected on the income and living conditions of the public. The last census in the Maldives was conducted in 2014.
