Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has imposed a fine of USD3,000 on Thulusdhoo Island Council for dumping trash into the sea.
A statement by EPA revealed the island council of Thulusdhoo, Kaafu Atoll had violated the waste management regulations by dumping food waste into the sea. EPA said the council has been fined by an amount of USD3,000 for the violation. The council is required to pay the fine within 30 days.
In addition to paying the fine, the council is also required to formulate a new waste management plan at island-level and share it with EPA within 30 days.
