MTCC commences land reclamation and shore protection project in Magoodhoo

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially commenced fieldwork of the land reclamation and shore protection project in Magoodhoo, Faafu Atoll.

The project was officially inaugurated by CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and Parliamentarian Ahmed Haleem, during a ceremony held in Magoodhoo on August 10. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Parliamentarian Haleem highlighted the significance of the project for the economic and social development of Faafu Atoll, as well as the neighbouring Dhaalu Atoll. Meanwhile, CEO Azim assured that MTCC will complete the project within the allocated timeframe.

The land reclamation and shore protection project in Magoodhoo was contracted to MTCC by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on January 27. The project involves reclaiming 48 hectares of land in the island, which includes 30.8 hectares for the development of an airport and an additional 17 hectares for other purposes. Furthermore, shore protection will be developed in an area of over 3,300sqm. The project is worth USD13.5 million.
