Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted SJ Construction Private Limited to develop 75 rowhouses in Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.
The contract for the project was signed on August 10 by Director General of Housing Department at the ministry, Ahmed Wishan Naseem, and Managing Director of SJ Construction, Mohamed Shahid. The project was awarded on a design-and-build basis, at a price of USD7.8 million.
The housing ministry revealed the project involves developing 75 two-story rowhouses, each consisting an area of 700sqft. Each unit will have 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a sitting room, kitchen, dining room, laundry area and a storeroom. A park and a vehicle-parking area will be developed as part of the project.
Dhidhdhoo has a population of over 5,000. Lack of adequate housing is one of the main problems faced by residents of the island, due to the rising population. The project is part of the government’s efforts to resolve housing issues faced across the country.
