Ihavandhoo harbour to be completed next month

Ihavandhoo Island Council has revealed the harbour development project of the island will be completed next month.

The harbour development project of Ihavandhooo, Haa Alifu Atoll, was contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) by the government. The project is conducted at a cost of USD3.84 million from the state budget.

Speaking to PSM News, Ihavandhoo Council President Ahmed Sabah said the majority of the work has already been completed and the harbor is expected to be completed next month. He also said ongoing are the works of dredging the harbour. He added the completion of the project will provide great ease to the residents as well as tourists coming to the island.

The scope of works for the project include dredging and excavation operations of 30,509cbm, the construction of a 95m quay wall, a 284m breakwater, and a 178m revetment. Additionally, the installation of navigation lights, installation of streetlights and construction of 4,582sqm of paved area will also be undertaken.

With a population of over 3,500, Ihavandhoo is also a prominent fishing island in the atoll. The lack of harbour space is a complaint of fishermen and boat crew. Therefore, it is believed the comlpetion of the harbour will put an end to the complaints of the people of the island.
