Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has met with the young Maldivian team that won the Karate and Silambam Asian Championship 2022 in Tamil Nadu, India.
The meeting with the Maldivian team, consisting of students from three local schools, was held at the Ministry of Education on August 9. During the meeting, the education minister congratulated the team on the remarkable achievement.
The Maldivian team won the Karate and Silambam Championship after beating 10 states of India. The Maldivian team brought home 17 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 16 bronze medals from the tournament.
This is the first time a Maldivian karate team has participated in an international tournament.
