Maldives Police Service (MPS) has released Sheikh Adam Nishan, who was arrested in relation to the Yoga Day incident in Male’ City.
Sheikh Nishan was arrested on June 22 over his alleged role in the violent disruption of the International Yoga Day activities held at the National Stadium on June 21. His remand had been extended three times since his arrest before the Criminal Court decided to release him under certain conditions.
Meanwhile, former Parliamentarian Mohamed Ismail, who was among the others arrested in relation to the Yoga Day incident, has also been released by the court. His remand had also been extended three times before the court ordered his release.
More than 20 people were arrested in relation to the Yoga Day incident. The case is still under investigation by the Serious and Organised Crime Department of MPS.
