MFDA warns of pesticide-contaminated ice cream on the market

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has warned consumers to be vigilant about pesticide-contaminated French brand ice cream on the market.

In a press release, the MFDA said the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed has brought to its attention the importation of pesticide-contaminated French brand Haagen-Dazs ice cream into the Maldives. MFDA added that efforts are underway to identify the food safety hazards due to this.

The MFDA said the pesticide was found in batch 8 of the Haagen-Dazs Vanilla brand. Meanwhile, the MFDA warned some batches of Belgian Chocolate, Cookies and Cream, Cookies and Cream SPK, and Vanilla Caramel Almonds also contain pesticides.

The authority has released the details of the pesticide-containing products and has ordered that these batches not be sold or used in the country.
