MWSC completes testing of water supply facility in Naifaru

Maldives Water and Sewerage Company Limited (MWSC) has completed the testing phase of the water supply facility established in Naifaru, Lhaviyani Atoll.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure contracted MWSC to complete the construction of the water supply facility in Naifaru at a cost of USD1.6 million. The utility company built the facility and commenced the testing phase on July 19.

The planning ministry stated that the facility will provide clean water to 1,510 households in Naifaru and that it has the capacity to generate 100 tonnes of water daily. The ministry stated the facility has two reverse osmosis (RO) plants and a storage tank.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Naifaru Island Council Mohamed Rasheed said the development of the water supply facility is a relief to the residents and that he expects services to begin soon.

Naifaru has a population of over 5,600 residents. Contractors were previously hired to establish essential services such as water supply and sewerage systems on the island. MWSC was contracted to complete the water supply system in 2020, which included the construction of the storage tank, as well as installing water metres and connecting the system to the households.
