MNP confirms election of members to 180 positions unopposed

Maldives National Party (MNP) has announced members have been elected to 180 positions unopposed, ahead of the upcoming internal elections of the party.

Speaking at a press conference, President of MNP’s Electoral Committee Ahmed Amjad said 196 candidates are vying for 185 positions opened by the party for the upcoming internal elections. He revealed 180 of these positions are contested by a single candidate, and therefore have been automatically elected.

Amjad further stated only five positions are to be decided by the election to be held on August 6. As such, he revealed the Women’s Wing Leader, Youth Wing Leader, presidents of the party’s constituencies in Nolhivaram and Thulhaadhoo, and the vice president of the party’s constituency in Holhudhoo will be elected on August 6.

MNP revealed ballot boxes will be placed in all islands with at least 50 registered members of the party. As such, the party will be placing ballot boxes in 54 islands. Voting will be carried out from 0800hrs until 1600hrs on August 6.
