RTL bus service launched in three regions

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has launched the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus services in three regions across the atolls.

MTCC launched the RTL bus service in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City and Laamu Atoll. The bus services were launched in these regions as part of a 50-year service agreement signed by MTCC.

MTCC brought in 36 minibuses to the Maldives on July 16 to begin bus services in the Greater Male’ Region and the atolls. MTCC revealed 13 of these buses were transferred to Addu, and four buses were transferred to Fuvahmulah. Another six buses were transferred to Laamu Atoll, including four buses to be used in Gan and Fonadhoo, as well as two buses to be used in Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo.

MTCC stated the bus service will be operated as a trial until August 14. The state-owned company said the service will be free of charge during this period. The company also noted children under the age of 3, disabled persons and senior citizens would be able to travel on the bus free of charge throughout the service.

The minibuses to be operated under the RTL service have a capacity of 20 passengers and operate on diesel fuel. The vehicles are designed to accommodate passengers in wheelchairs as well.
