Construction of new Dharumavantha School building to be completed this year

Ministry of Education has stated construction of the new building of Dharumavantha School is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.

The development of the new building of Dharumavantha School was contracted to SJ Construction Private Limited on February 4, 2020. However, the project underwent several delays over multiple issues including design issues as well as difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite some setbacks, construction of the new building of Dharumavantha School is currently ongoing at a rapid pace. The education ministry revealed most of the concrete works have already been completed, and finishing works are now underway.

The education ministry had previously aimed to open the new building by the start of the upcoming academic year. However, the ministry said delays in procuring some materials from abroad led to further delays in completing the project. The ministry said the contractor is currently working to complete the project by the end of the year.

The new Dharumavantha School is developed as the first school under the concept of holistic education. The school will have 41 classrooms with a capacity of 25 students per classroom. The school will also include a two-storey library as well as facilities for sports and other extra-curricular activities.

Dharumavantha School was initially formed to solve the issues faced by Majeediyya School due to lack of space. As such, Majeediyya School was divided to form Dharumavantha School in 2002.

In 2016, a temporary building was constructed next to Velana Building to shift Dharumavantha School due to the poor condition of the school. The new building of Dharumavantha School is being constructed in the vacant plot in front of Villa College.
