Two people arrested over allegations of engaging in homosexual acts

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested two individuals over allegations of engaging in homosexual acts.

MPS revealed arrest warrants are being sought through the court for the arrest of individuals who allegedly engaged in homosexual acts, which are prohibited in the Maldives as per the Islamic Shari’ah and local laws. MPS revealed two men, aged 35 and 45, have been arrested through a court order, after acquiring enough evidence to produce a warrant.

MPS began a large-scale investigation following videos that were leaked showing several people engaging in homosexual acts with a Bangladeshi national called MD Alamgir, who was arrested on July 12. Some of the videos have also been leaked on social media.
