PPM wins Hithadhoo, MNP wins Vandhoo in WDC by-elections

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that the candidate representing the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) won the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) by-election in Hithadhoo, Addu City, and the candidate from the Maldives National Party (MNP) won the WDC seat in Vandhoo, Thaa Atoll.

PPM candidate Fathimath Nazeeha won the Hithadhoo seat with 567 votes in the by-election held on July 23, beating Aminath Shahidha, the candidate representing the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who received 426 votes. A total of 8.34% of the eligible voters placed their ballots in the by-election, which is 1,009 out of 12,099 voters.

MNP candidate Khadheeja Mohamed won the Vandhoo seat with 114 votes, beating MDP candidate Shirumeena Ali, who received 85 votes. The Vandhoo WDC by-election saw a turnout of 68% of eligible voters, which is 203 out of 298 voters.
