Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed that 768 cameras have been installed in four towers of the Hiyaa housing project.
HDC stated that cameras have been installed in Hiyaa Towers H13-16 to ensure the security of tenants and that cameras will also be installed in the other 12 towers. As such, HDC plans to install a total of 3,072 cameras in all the towers. The state-owned company stated that various contractors have been hired for the project in order to complete the work as soon as possible.
Hiya is the largest public housing project in Hulhumale' Phase II and a large number of residents began moving to the Hiya flats this year. Many of the residents have expressed concern over the lack of essential services and security in the area, which had led to cases of theft and drug-related crimes.
HDC has been holding discussions with the relevant authorities to solve these issues. As part of the efforts, HDC has opened a management office in the Hiyaa flat area, while seven shops, two supermarkets, two clinics, a pharmacy, and a bakery have also been opened. Furthermore, three cafes, a salon, a mosque, and two temporary mosques have been built in the area, and a police station was also opened.
