SJ Construction Private Limited has commenced preparations to build 100 housing units in Gan, Laamu Atoll.
Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted SJ Construction to construct 100 housing units in Gan on May 30. Scope of the project includes developing 100 three-bedroom units in Gan, each with an area of 1,000sqft. Each unit will include three bathrooms, a kitchen, dining room, laundry and storeroom. Each unit will have an area of 1,000sqft. The work also includes installing street lights, establishing a parking area, and developing a public park close to the housing units.
SJ Construction revealed it has transported the vehicles and heavy machinery and resources needed for the project. The company added the labour force allocated for the project is also in the island and ready to begin work.
The project was contracted to SJ Construction at a price of USD5.4 million, which is to be spent under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) budget. The project is expected to be completed within one year.
Gan is one of the most populous islands in the country with over 4,800 registered residents. The development of 100 housing units in Gan is part of the government's pledge to resolve housing issues faced across the country.
