Dhiggaru Island Council by-election scheduled for August 13

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has scheduled the Dhiggaru Island Council by-election for August 13.

ECM has assigned the numbers for the candidates vying for the vacant seat at the Dhiggaru Island Council. As such, the candidate representing Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Abdulla Arif, has been assigned as Candidate number 1 and the candidate representing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), Abdul Hannan Ahmed, has been assigned as Candidate number 2.

The seat at the Dhiggaru Island Council became vacant following the resignation of an independent member. Main ruling party MDP has the majority in the council with three members, while the main opposition party PPM has one member.

Furthermore, ECM is preparing to hold by-elections on July 23 for the vacant Women’s Development Committee (WDC) slots of Innamaadhoo in Raa Atoll, Vandhoo in Thaa Atoll, and Hithadhoo in Addu City.
