Road Development Corporation (RDC) has stated that the fieldwork for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu in Male’ City will begin on August 20.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik said that the design phase of the project is ongoing at a rapid pace while the company conducts a survey and procures machinery and vehicles. He said that the road will be developed to modern standards that will be convenient to pedestrians and remain resilient for a long time.
Furthermore, Managing Director Manik said that RDC plans to complete the project without delay once the fieldwork begins, noting that the company was given 210 days to develop the road that spans 1.79km. He expressed confidence that the project will be completed ahead of schedule. He also said that a survey is being conducted to determine the condition of the underside of the road in order to implement permanent solutions to longstanding problems. He added that RDC also plans to refurbish the road after development, which includes installing better streetlights.
The contract for the redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was signed between the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure and RDC on July 3. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million.
Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads of Male’ City due to the high number of office buildings and schools, and is one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital. The road is in poor condition, which causes difficulties to vehicles and pedestrians using the road.
