Ministry of Higher Education has handed over the project site of the proposed Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Centre in Alifushi, Raa Atoll to the project contractor.
The official site handover was carried out following a handover meeting held at the higher education ministry on June 30. Members of the Alifushi Island Council and the project manager of the contractor stationed in Alifushi were among the virtual attendees of the meeting.
Development of the TVET centre in Alifushi was contracted to Wee Hour Investment Private Limited in May. The TVET centre will include a three-storey institute block, two-storey accommodation block, two-storey activity area and a boatyard. The centre will be equipped with a carpentry workshop, machine workshop, multipurpose workshop, six classrooms and an ICT laboratory as well as a staff room, auditorium, meeting rooms, study rooms and a library.
The higher education ministry revealed the classrooms, laboratory and workshops of the institute will be built to accommodate 20 students. The ministry added the TVET centre will be built to accommodate a total capacity of 150 students, with the accommodation block to be built to hold a capacity of 58 students.
The TVET centre in Alifushi is part of the government’s efforts to expand higher education and training across the atolls. The centre in Alifushi will be a dedicated facility for courses and training programmes of the boat building sector.
