Parliament approves Thasmeen as High Commissioner to Singapore

The Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Ahmed Thasmeen Ali as the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Singapore.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated Thasmeen to the post of High Commissioner to Singapore, to replace Ibrahim Shaheeb who is set to be appointed as the High Commissioner to India. The appointment of Thasmeen as the High Commissioner to Singapore was approved with votes from 58 parliamentarians.

Thasmeen is a former parliamentarian who represented the constituency of Kendhoo, Baa Atoll. He is also a former leader of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), and was the running mate of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom during the 2008 presidential election.
