COVID-19 security measures tightened in public services

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has strengthened the safety and precautionary measures in healthcare facilities and establishments providing public services due to the spread of COVID-19.

HPA has mandated the wearing of masks in hospitals and clinics, in particular, for safety reasons. Meanwhile, visiting hours of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) have also been shortened from 1700hrs to 1900hrs. In addition, people are advised not to take too many people along to the hospital and are advised against visiting unless absolutely necessary. Furthermore, the airports and some public services are urging people to take precautions. As such, few people are asked to accompany travellers, and they are advised to wear masks at all times.

The number of COVID-19 cases has increased in the Maldives in the past week. The statistics from the HPA show that 1,202 cases were reported last week, while the cases reported in the previous week were 400. The number of patients hospitalised is also on the rise as per statistics. Currently, 51 individuals are seeking care in hospitals.
