Gov’t seeking contractors to develop waste management centres in 15 islands

Ministry of Finance has issued an announcement seeking contractors to develop waste management centres in 15 islands.

The development of waste management centres in 15 islands is carried out under the Greater Male’ Environmental Improvement and Waste Management Project, funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The waste management centres of 15 islands have been assigned to 8 lots, with the development of each lot to be contracted separately. The lots have been assigned as shown below.

  • Lot 1: Thulusdhoo, Huraa and Himmafushi in Kaafu Atoll
  • Lot 2: Maafushi and Guraidhoo in Kaafu Atoll
  • Lot 3: Thinadhoo and Felidhoo in Vaavu Atoll
  • Lot 4: Keyodhoo and Rakeedhoo in Vaavu Atoll
  • Lot 5: Mahibadhoo and Hangnaameedhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll
  • Lot 6: Himandhoo and Feridhoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll
  • Lot 7: Thoddoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll
  • Lot 8: Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll


The finance ministry said only companies registered at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure can submit bids for the project. The bidding process will be carried out according to the National Competitive Bidding (NCB) policy.

Establishment of waste management facilities in islands is an important pledge of the administration. The government has allocated USD23.4 million in this year’s budget for waste management projects.
