Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested another three individuals in relation to the violent disruption of the World Yoga Day event held at the National Stadium on June 21.
MPS had previously arrested 12 individuals over the incident at the National Stadium, which saw a group of individuals breaking through police barricades to enter the stadium before damaging some items in the area and attacking participants at the event. MPS revealed three more arrests have been made across June 24-25, taking the total number of arrests over the incident to 15. Details of the three latest arrests have not yet been disclosed.
Individuals that have been arrested in relation to the Yoga Day incident include former Parliamentarian Mohamed Ismail and religious scholars Sheikh Fazloon Mohamed and Sheikh Adam Nishan. The remand of all individuals arrested over the incident have been extended by a court order.
