Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun transferring five high-speed ferries to begin Raajje Transport Link (RTL) services in Haa Alifu Atoll. The ferries embarked for Haa Alifu Atoll at a special ceremony held at the Hulhumale’ ferry terminal.

Speaking at the ceremony, General Manager Ismail Fariq said that the RTL services in Haa Alifu Atoll will begin on June 26 and will be free of charge until July 1 and that high-speed ferry services will be established in all areas of Zone 1 by the end of July. He said MTCC is currently in the process of procuring the ferries for Zone 1.

MTCC began the RTL high-speed ferry service in Haa Dhaalu Atoll of Zone 1 of the National Public Ferry Network, which consists of 40 inhabited islands in Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll. The National Public Ferry Network is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, convenient, and sustainable passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerating social and economic growth, improving efficiency in the delivery of public services, and improving mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation. The government aims to connect all Maldivian islands using the ferry network by the end of 2023.
