MTCC concludes tarring Dhuvaafaru roads

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed laying asphalt on the roads of Dhuvaafaru, Raa Atoll.

The government contracted the project to MTCC in 2019. MTCC conducted the Dhuvaafaru road development project in two phases. In this regard, 12 roads in Dhuvaafaru were developed under the first phase, which was completed last year.

Under the first phase of the project, asphalt was laid on a road area of 25,513sqm, and an area of 6,813sqm will be paved. The project also includes the installation of a stormwater drainage system and cable junction boxes. MTCC said the stormwater drainage system was designed with an emphasis on infiltration rather than pumping, in order to ensure the freshwater lens of the island is replenished. Under the second phase, seven roads will be developed to modern standards, with 17,790 acres for vehicular traffic and 6,923 acres for pavement. MTCC said 93% of the overall road development project in Dhuvaafaru has been completed.

The project costs USD5.45 million, including USD3 million for phase 1 and USD2.45 million for phase 2.
