STELCO cleans historical sites in Male’

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has conducted cleaning operations in historical sites in Male’ City as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

STELCO has been handling cleaning and maintenance operations at the Old Friday Mosque and the Medhuziyaaraiy Shrine since 2019. The work includes maintaining the condition of the minaret at the Old Friday Mosque and cleaning the limestone wells.

The work was inaugurated by Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage Yumna Maumoon. She praised STELCO’s work to maintain the sites and said that historical and religious landmarks such as the Old Friday Mosque exist across the country and. She said that the government has been holding discussions with other state-owned companies and local councils to find ways to maintain local historical sites.

Additionally, Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said that STELCO places a special priority on maintaining the sites and that it has decided to conduct cleaning operations in other historical sites in Male’ City as well. He added that workers will be cleaning the Old Friday Mosque every month.

Furthermore, Minister of State for Arts, Culture, and Heritage Ahmed Thoriq said the government will soon officially hand over cleaning operations of other historical landmarks to STELCO. The sites include the tomb of Ali Rasgefaanu and the Male’ Eid Mosque.
