Three airports to be completed during current gov't term

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) Adam Azim has announced the development of three airports will be completed during the tenure of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

MTCC is currently working on the development of Alifushi Airport in Raa Atoll, Muli Airport in Meemu Atoll, and Faresmaathodaa Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The three airports are also being developed focusing on domestic operations across the Maldives. Of the three airports contracted by the government, MTCC is nearing the completion of the Faresmaathodaa Airport.

Speaking to PSM news, Adam Azim said Faresmaathodaa Airport is 80% completed. As such, he detailed the runway has been completed and ongoing is the finishing work of the terminal and the fire building. He also said work at the Faresmathoda Airport was delayed due to administrative difficulties in procuring the necessary equipment, but that the development of the airport is now progressing at a rapid speed.

Furthermore, Azim revealed that work is underway at Muli Airport to construct the pillars required for the terminal and the fire building. He stated the site has been mobilised for the construction of Alifushi Airport, expressing hope to complete the three airports before the end of the current presidential term. He said the entire MTCC team is very active and the employees are motivated to provide as many services to the people. 

In addition to airport development, MTCC is currently developing harbours in more than 40 islands. MTCC is also implementing several land reclamation and road construction projects in different parts of the country, which it said will be completed during the current term.
