PPM elects 17 new members to its council

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has elected 17 new members to the party’s council.

New council members were elected by PPM to fill two vacated seats, 10 new seats added through the latest amendments to the party’s regulations, and five seats allocated for female members. The election of members for these 17 seats was carried out at the PPM office on June 18.

New council members elected to PPM include former Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim, former Health Minister Abdulla Nazim and former Communication Minister Mohamed Maleeh Jamal. Thoriq and Nazim had served in the cabinet of former President Abdulla Yameen, while Maleeh had served in the cabinets of both the current and previous administration.

The council election of PPM was contested by 103 candidates. PPM revealed 64 individuals were eligible to vote in the election, of which 51 took part in the vote.
