Civil Procedure Code training underway in Kulhudhuffushi

The Department of Judicial Administration (DJA) has commenced a training programme on Civil Procedure Code for magistrates and employees of the judicial offices in the district.

The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of Maldives Ahmed Muthasim Adnan. The programme is conducted for Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll. Eight magistrates and 38 employees from these atolls participated in the training programme, DJA said. The programme focuses on the admission, trial, and enforcement of cases under the Code, according to the DJA.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Justice Muthasim Adnan said it is important to make arrangements to facilitate the public's ability to access justice easily and quickly. He also asked the courts to arrange matters in such a way as to facilitate it.

The Civil Procedure Code was ratified by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on December 16, 2021. It encompasses the rules relating to pre-trial procedures, proceedings at trial, general rules of evidence applicable to civil cases, judgments, orders, and enforcement of judgments in civil proceedings. The code came into effect six months after ratification, on June 16, 2022.

The purpose of the Civil Procedure Code is to enhance the efficiency of the civil litigation process and to ensure that cases are decided in a just and transparent manner. The Civil Procedure Code will apply to all courts overseeing civil matters.
