Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO) has decided to conduct open water diving courses for local fishermen.
The programme is an initiative of MIFCO and the Maldivian Fishermen’s Association. The diving courses aim to provide training on open water diving for the collection of bait for fishing. The courses also aim to reduce accidents that occur while diving to collect bait, and to create awareness on safe diving.
The first phase of the diving courses will be conducted in islands of Gaafu Alifu and Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. MIFCO stated the courses will enable fishermen to acquire training on open water diving with minimum expenditure and travelling.
In addition to open water diving courses, MIFCO is also set to conduct rescue and emergency first responder courses for local fishermen.
