Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has revealed that fieldwork is being carried out for 345 developmental projects across the Maldives.
Speaking at the Parliament of the Maldives, Minister Aslam said fieldwork has begun for the majority of the projects and that many of the other projects have been handed over to contractors or are in the tendering stage. As such, the minister said that fieldwork for 345 projects is being carried out, while the planning stage has been completed for 77 projects. He detailed that 35 harbour development projects have been completed while fieldwork for 42 such projects is ongoing and 12 projects have been handed over to the contractors. He also said that 21 road development projects are ongoing and three such projects have been handed over to contractors.
Additionally, Minister Aslam said that eight shore protection projects have been completed while 18 such projects have been handed over to contractors and 23 projects are in the process of being handed over to contractors. He added that six land reclamation projects have been completed while fieldwork is ongoing for reclamation projects in four islands and 10 such projects have been handed over to contractors. He further said over 130 water and sewerage network projects have been handed over to contractors and fieldwork for many of the projects is being carried out across the country.
The government has pledged to establish water supply and sewerage systems in all inhabited islands by 2023 and has been working to provide essential services to citizens in all parts of the country.
