Ghafoor to be appointed as Ambassador to the US

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed to be appointed as the Maldivian Ambassador to the United States (US).

Ghafoor, a veteran of the Maldivian foreign sector, was nominated by President Solih to replace Thilmeeza Hussain as the Ambassador the US. His name has been submitted to the Parliament of the Maldives for approval.

Ghafoor was recently replaced as the Foreign Secretary of the Maldives by Ahmed Latheef, and transferred to the position of Amabssador at-large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has served in multiple positions in the foreign sector over the years, including the position of Ambassador to the US.

The president has also submitted nominations for some other ambassadorship positions, including Hassan Sobir as the Non-Resident Ambassador to South Korea, and Omar Abdul Razzak as the Non-Resident Ambassador to the Netherlands. The nominations will be reviewed by the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.
