Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has refuted claims that its President Hisaan Hussain had conducted a meeting with Attorney General (AG) Ibrahim Riffath and Criminal Court Judge Ahmed Shakeel, who is overseeing the money laundering trial of former President Abdulla Yameen.
In a statement, JSC said claims of a meeting between Hisaan Hussain, AG Riffath and Judge Shakeel are completely false and baseless. JSC stated it will seek action on the spread of lies that damages the reputation and integrity of the commission.
Judge Shakeel is leading the judges’ bench at the Criminal Court that oversees the trial of the money laundering and bribery charges pressed against former President Yameen over the lease of Aarah, Vaavu Atoll for tourism development through Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). In addition to Yameen, former Parliamentarian Yoosuf Naeem has also been charged in the case.
