Environment Minister visits sites of renewable energy projects in Addu

Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna has visited the sites of renewable energy projects launched in Addu City.

Environment Minister Shauna arrived in Addu on an official visit on June 10. The purpose of the trip is to inspect the progress of renewable energy and waste management projects launched in Addu and to visit some of the protected areas of the city.

During the trip, the environment minister visited areas where installation of solar PV systems is set to begin. As such, the minister visited the sites of the proposed floating solar PV system and ground mounted solar PV system in the Hulhumeedhoo ward.

The installation of the 11MW ground mounted solar PV system in Addu is carried out under the Accelerating Sustainable Private Investments in Renewable Energy (ASPIRE) Project, while the installation of the 10MW floating solar PV system is carried out under the Accelerating Renewable Energy Integration and Sustainable Energy (ARISE) Project. Both projects are funded by the World Bank.

During the trip, Minister Shauna has also visited the Addu Nature Park and some other protected areas of the city. She has also visited the Hulhumeedhoo Waste Management Centre, and is scheduled to visit the Addu Regional Waste Management Centre on June 13. During this visit, she will sign the agreement for the development of the Waste Transfer Station of Addu.
