Laamu Atoll Council to give awards to atoll residents

Laamu Atoll Council has decided to give out awards to exceptional residents in the atoll.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Laamu Atoll Council Ismail Ali said the awards will be given out on July 26 every year and that the decision was made to celebrate individuals who have excelled in various fields. He said that nominations will be open for this year’s awards until June 16.

Laamu Atoll Council stated awards will be given to residents who have achieved PhDs and those who have memorised the Quran. The awards will also be given to the best local council and women’s development committee (WDC). Additionally, a total of 16 recognition awards will be presented at the awards ceremony on July 26. The council stated the last time awards were given to residents was four years ago.

Laamu Atoll Council is also assisting local businesses and planning various marketing activities to increase revenue generation in the region. As such, the council will be hosting a marathon in September.
