Judge Huzaifa Mohamed and Judge Shukurullah Shakeel have applied for the vacant position at the High Court of the Maldives.
Applications to fill the vacant position on the High Court bench were closed on June 9. The applicants were required to be at least 25 years of age, hold at least a bachelor’s degree related to law, and have at least five years of experience working as an attorney or a judge. The salary of a High Court judge is USD2,300 with a living allowance of USD1,000 and a risk allowance of USD2,000. The judges also receive medical and phone allowances.
The position on the High Court bench was vacated following the resignation of Judge Ali Sameer on April 17. Sameer has recently been appointed as the Deputy Prosecutor General. Since then, a further position has been vacated following the dismissal of Judge Abdulla Hameed.
