Justice of the Supreme Court Husnu Suood has been appointed as President of the Judges’ Association of the Maldives.
The steering committee decided to appoint Justice Suood as president of the association after the position was left vacant following the resignation of then-president, High Court Judge Abdul Rauf Ibrahim on May 31. Rauf submitted his resignation to the High Court after the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) requested the Parliament of the Maldives to dismiss him for violating the Constitution of the Maldives.
Justice Suood has accepted his appointment as President of the Judges’ Association. He previously served as the Attorney General during the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed and was also the President of the Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances.
The Judges’ Association of the Maldives was established to maintain the rights and independence of judges as well as to uphold their judicial responsibilities.
