LRA to establish branches in eight atolls this year

Labour Relations Authority (LRA) has revealed that it is working to establish branches in eight atolls by the end of the year.

Speaking to PSM News after signing the agreement to establish a branch in Baa Atoll, Assistant Director Hoodh Abbas said the services provided by LRA could be expanded to more than eight atolls this year depending on the budget. He noted the number of complaints regarding employment has been increasing year by year and that establishing branches in the atolls is an important step in providing the services to citizens and investigating the complaints in a decentralised manner.

Currently, LRA provides its services at the main office in Male’ City. However, the authority has signed agreements to establish branches in Shaviyani Atoll, Raa Atoll and Baa Atoll, and is currently conducting training programmes to hire employees for the branches. The branches are expected to be open within three months.

LRA operates under the Ministry of Economic Development and was established to observe compliance with the Employment Act and its regulations and to implement the administrative steps required for adherence to the law.
