Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Hassan has visited the farms in Kaashidhoo in Kaafu Atoll, and Thoddoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll. During the visits, Minister Hassan witnessed the damages caused by recent harsh weather conditions and held discussions with the farmers on the importance of taking precautionary measures.
Furthermore, Minister Hassan met with the Kaashidhoo Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) to discuss their initiatives to further develop agriculture on the island. The minister also held discussions with the Thoddoo Island Council to solve the challenges faced in irrigation.
Additionally, Minister Hassan provided information on using the latest technologies to solve the challenges farmers face in their work. As such, he provided details to farmers and council members on the project of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to establish an irrigation system in Thoddoo that would use rainwater and prevent the contamination of the water table. He also opened the project to feedback from the farmers and council members.
