Islamic Minister to head Maldivian Hajj pilgrims

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir as the Amir al-Hajj from the Maldives for this year.

Every year, the president appoints a senior state official to act as the head of the pilgrims during the Hajj season. The Hajj is expected to begin on July 7 this year.

The Maldives has received a quota of 453 for this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. Out of these, 352 slots have been reserved for those currently in the queue and applications are now being accepted for the remaining 100 slots, which will be selected in a draw held on June 2.
