The Maldives has assumed its position as a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Executive Board for a term of three years.

The Maldives officially assumed its position as the representative of South and Southeast Asia at the WHO Executive Board, at the 151st session of the board which was held on May 30. Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem is leading the Maldivian delegation at the session.

The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. This second shorter meeting of the year is a follow-up to the World Health Assembly. The main functions of the board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and advise and generally to facilitate its work.
