Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has revealed efforts are underway to find a permanent solution for the issue of unpaid bills by customers.
Speaking at a press conference held on May 26, Deputy Managing Director of WAMCO Yoosuf Siraj said there are over USD2.7 million worth of bills yet to be paid by customers after seeking WAMCO’s services. He said the corporation is working on a permanent solution for the issue of unpaid bills, noting the relevant authorities have agreed to seek legal solutions for the matter.
Siraj further noted there were problems in the initial registration process carried out by WAMCO at the start of its services, as shown by the records of the company. He added the company is working on clearing such data and establish a more accurate database with all records and accounts.
Speaking further, Siraj said although there is a large amount of outstanding bills by customers, most of the customers are now paying their bills regularly. In this regard, he revealed 80-90% of all households registered for WAMCO’s services in the Greater Male’ Region are paying their bills regularly.
WAMCO provides waste collection and disposal services to nearly 25,000 registered households in the Greater Male’ Region. WAMCO charges a monthly fee of USD10 for the service.
