Vice President lays foundation for HDC buildings in Kudagiri

Vice President Faisal Naseem has laid the foundation of buildings to be developed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) in Kudagiri Picnic Island in Kaafu Atoll.

At a special ceremony held during his visit to the island, Vice President Naseem and Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed laid the foundation for the project to construct public bathrooms and day rooms. The vice president also planted some trees after inspecting the progress of the picnic island development project. HDC plans to build separate bathrooms for men, women, and people with special needs, as well as a nursing room, five multi-party huts, and 15 single-party huts.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has reclaimed eight hectares of land for the Kudagiri Picnic Island. Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC for the development of the island in 2021. The scope of the project also includes the construction of a 397m rock boulder breakwater, and a 428m rock boulder revetment.

Kudagiri is being developed as a picnic destination for residents of the Greater Male’ Region. The picnic island will be developed with family rooms, food outlets, huts, and barbeque areas as well as changing rooms with lockers, nursing rooms, and prayer rooms. The island will also have an area allocated for events.

Residents of the Greater Male’ Region currently do not have a convenient picnic location. The residents in the capital region lost the only picnic island within the accessible proximity following the redevelopment of Kudabandos as a resort.
